Winter is Coming!! Healthy Tip #7 Boost your Immune System: Stay Hydrated

Hello Friends,

I hope you are finding ways to add the other tips to your immune boosting lifestyle: exercise, eat more fruits and vegetables, making sleep and stress management a priority, taking essential vitamins, drinking alcohol in moderation and adopting good hygiene practices.

In this article, we talk about the seventh tip to improve your chances of staying healthy this winter and boosting your immune system:

Stay Hydrated

Drinking plenty of water and decaffeinated beverages on a regular basis helps stave of infection, eliminate toxins and bacteria that cause illness. Fluids are crucial to maintaining a healthy immune system as well as heart, brain and every other body system. Are bodies are 60% water most of which two-thirds is contained inside the cells and one-third outside our cells. The amount of water varies depending on age; a newborn is composed of more water (75%) and an elderly person (50%). Also, the more muscular the body, the more water it contains.

The recommended amount of fluid intake on a daily basis is 30-50 ounces, but not all at once. It’s important to hydrate gradually throughout the day, eating foods rich in water such as fruits and vegetables.

Certain health conditions might limit water intake such as kidney, liver or heart conditions, or if you’re taking medications that cause water retention, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), opiate pain medications, and some antidepressants. For this reason you should check with your physician to make sure you’re getting the right amount of daily fluid intake.
